Tributes are already pouring in for much-loved DJ Tony Fenton

Former colleagues and celebrities have paid tribute to the late DJ.

TRIBUTES HAVE BEEN pouring in for legendary DJ Tony Fenton, who has passed away at the age of 53.

Several figures from the music industry, such as Kodaline and Bressie, have paid tribute to the titan of radio, who passed away this morning after battling prostate cancer.

Many other well-known figures have tweeted their condolences.

The news of Fenton’s death has prompted an outpouring of love from members of the Irish radio community with former colleagues and peers taking to Twitter to pay tribute to the Today FM star.

Speaking on Today FM News this lunchtime, Ian Dempsey described the news as a “major shock” and described him as “Mr. Positivity”.

Gift Grub’s Mario Rosenstock described him as “a complete gentleman in the old-fashioned sense”. Rosenstock also joked that Fenton “lived life like a Carlsberg ad” and praised his relentless optimism.

Elsewhere, Today FM’s Phil Cawley tweeted that it was a “sad day”.

While Tom Dunne stated that he was “heartbroken” at the news.

RTE’s John Kenny shared memories of their time working together in 2fm.

Several other figures from Irish radio have also tweeted their sadness at the news.

2fm’s Will Leahy took to Facebook to pen a touching tribute to the radio stalwart and said there was “huge sadness” among the Irish radio community at the news.

He was, off air, exactly the same as he was on air. Larger than life, the booming voice and the cheesy one liner!
He lived for radio. Nothing else came ahead of it. Well, apart from going out on the town. He was literally the best socialite I have ever witnessed. Anytime I had to overnight it Dublin it would be a case of “I’ll pick you up at 9 – we have to go to a gig with Billy from Aslan”.

Lehay also expressed his hope that RTÉ would dig into the archives and resurrect Fenton’s infamous Hotline catchphrase “You’re the winner!” one last time — a sentiment that has been widely echoed on social media.
